Chat With Me!

Why does it have to be so difficult? Just chat with me. Don’t want to chat? How about let’s babble, converse, jabber, gossip, or gab. Chatting, conversations, and small talk don’t have to be that difficult.

What are we afraid of? Are we afraid of being ridiculed? By who? If the person we are talking to feels the need to ridicule, then they are the ones who look foolish. Don’t allow the other person to make you feel any negativity. Remember the saying only dogs get angry? Well, the same thing applies here. You feel what you allow yourself to feel.

However, if there’s a need for some tips on chatting or conversing with people, there are a few things you can do to alleviate some anxiety.

When asking questions, they say it is best to use open ended questions. In other words, ask questions that cannot be answered with one word like yes or no. Instead of asking someone if they like school ask what they are studying in school or what do they like about their school.

Make sure you listen to what the other person is saying. It is easy to get caught up in our own thoughts when we are nervous or anxious.

Listen to other people’s conversations and learn from them. What questions are they asking? Are they open ended questions? How is each responding to the other? Learn from those you feel are good conversationalists.
